Sterns Trailers is honored to recognize Mckayla Conti of Ocean Township High School as the Athlete of the Week. Last week the Spartans played St. John Vianney in lacrosse and Conti scored five goals in that game, which is an amazing accomplishment. But what truly earned her a notch in the Ocean record books is that she also scored over 100 career goals. “I was not really nervous going into the game, I was more concerned with just winning,” said Conti. She has been playing lacrosse since eighth grade, but is also a soccer player and swimmer for the Spartans. However, in September she gave a verbal commitment to play lacrosse at the University of Louisville.
When asked if she remember her first varsity goal as a Spartan her answer was quick. “I was a freshman and it was against Monmouth Regional High School,” said Conti. “At that time I was playing with one of the leading scorers in Monmouth County, Jenna Gilman. I still have the ball from that game.”
When asked which game stood out in her memory she said last year against Red Bank Regional. Both were very competitive and fairly equal in talent. “There was basically a one goal differential the entire game and it was very exciting to come out on top,” said Conti. “I’d love to thank my coach, Andrea Schweitzer and my entire team for supporting me so much. Without them and my family, I really wouldn’t have any idea that I was about to score my hundredth goal and they made it very special for me.”
