Long Branch — It was a little chilly on Sunday, but that didn’t stop hordes of children and their parents from heading to West End Park for the annual Easter Egg Hunt sponsored by Seashore Day Camp and School and the Greater Long Branch Chamber of Commerce.
Tots of all ages showed up with their own Easter egg baskets, cloth bags or repurposed plastic bags from Fine Fare. It didn’t matter what kind of bag, just as long as they had something to stash the eggs hidden in the hay spread out on a blue tarp in the middle of the park.
John Villapiano, director of Seashore, had counselors from the camp spread out hay as everyone looked anxiously on. Then he threw eggs into the air and they were hidden beneath the hay. Kids and parents alike watched from the outer rim of the hay to see if they could catch where the coveted golden egg landed.
Villapiano began the countdown on a bullhorn, then blew a whistle and they were off by age groups, the youngest assisted by parents who were just as excited to find the colorful eggs.
The finder of the golden egg would win a large chocolate Easter Bunny and so would whoever collected the most eggs. All were brought over to the counting station and Nancy Kleiberg and Suzie Woolley of the Chamber of Commerce would hand out the delicious prizes.
