February 4, the Bombers of Sayreville were shot down 53-16 by the Spartans of Ocean Township in a non-conference wrestling match. Ocean hosted Sayreville on Tuesday night, February 4, winning 10 out of the 14 matches. Of those wins, seven were by pins, two were major decisions and one was a decision.
With the victory, Ocean improved to 16-3 on the season and are 2-2 in the Shore Conference B division. That division is led by Middletown North at 17-1 overall and 3-1 in the division matches. Ocean is in second place followed by Howell, Red Bank Catholic and Point Pleasant Boro. For the visiting Bomber, they drop to 15-8 overall and 3-4 in the GMC Red division.

138 pounds: Dominic Volek (Ocean) pin at 0:22 over Jake Callahan
144 pounds: Michael Volek (Ocean) pin at 1:05 over Juan Gomez
150 pounds: Jake Volek (Ocean) Major 15-2 decision over Carmine Galante.
Before the start of the males’ varsity wrestling matches, both Sayreville and Ocean had two female varsity wrestlers. Sophia Sharp of Ocean, a senior, earned her 55th career win with a pin.
On Monday, February 10, Ocean Township will host the quarterfinals of the NJSIAA Central Jersey, Group 2 Team Tournament. The Spartans, who are the two seed in that bracket will face Manasquan, the seventh seed in the quarters, while third seed Wall will face Raritan the sixth seed. Winners will face off in the semifinals.
Top seed Rumson-Fair Haven is hosting the other half of the bracket. They face eighth seed Delran, while fourth seed Point Boro is going against fifth seed Holmdel. The winners will face off in the semifinals.
February 12, Wednesday night, will be the finals. The location will be determined by the semifinal winners, as the top seed will hosting.

- It didn’t take Jevante Pinnock of Ocean Township (top) long to score his pin victory at 165 pounds. He recorded his win at 0:45 in his match with David Akinshilo of Sayreville.
