It only took 30 seconds for Daniel Farina (Top) of Ocean Township to score a pin over Jon Jones of Manasquan at 215 pounds.
February 10, the NJSIAA Central Jersey, Group 2 team wrestling tournament was held at both top seed Rumson-Fair Haven with four teams competing and at Ocean Township High School, the second seed, with four teams battling.
The Spartans of Ocean faced the seventh seed Warriors of Manasquan in their opening quarterfinals match. It was easy sailing for Ocean as they cruised to a 53-15 victory. However, there was one scary moment.
The last weight contested was 132 pounds. Manasquan sent out freshman Jaden Sanders, who entered the match with a 13-5 record. He was facing Justin Farina, a sophomore from Ocean Township. Sanders was winning the match going into the final period, when Farina was able to roll Sanders and had him in a hold which apparently caused Sanders to lose consciousness for a brief moment.
Kate Zimmerman, the certified and licensed athletic trainer for the Spartans, immediately ran onto the mat. After a few minutes, Sanders was able to compose himself and returned to action. Officials didn’t penalize Farina for the hold, so the match continued. It resulted with Sanders taking a 12-4 major decision.
With that win, Ocean improved to 17-4 overall and would take on Wall Township, the third seed, who defeated sixth seed Raritan 40-32 in the other quarterfinal at Ocean Township High School.

106 pounds: Michael Apicelli (Ocean) 7-1 sudden victory over Shea Tracey
113 pounds: Justin Penta (Ocean) pin over Shane Kerstetter
120 pounds: Christopher Tenas (Ocean) 8-4 decision over Shane DePinto
126 pounds: Steven Perez (Ocean) pin over Donovan Havard
132 pounds: Jaden Sanders (Manasquan) major decision 12-4 over Justin Farina.
