Oceanport — Sunday’s Haskell invitational will draw some of the biggest names in horse racing, including the winners of this year’s Preakness and Belmont. The race attracts national attention; it’s being televised on ABC from 5-6 p.m. As a result, it will draw heavy crowds, and the Oceanport Police Department says roads will be closed to help deal with the large volume of traffic.
Police advise residents to expect delays and detours on that day.
Oceanport will be closed to through traffic from late morning to early evening between Port Au Peck Avenue and Crescent Place. Port Au Peck Ave. will be closed to westbound traffic on Myrtle Avenue from late afternoon until early evening.
Cross-town traffic will use Asbury Avenue to Bridgewaters Drive.
Signs will be put up to advise motorists, but police say if you are planning to travel through Oceanport you may wish to plan an alternate route.
