Sea Bright — At the Aug. 2 Borough Council meeting, Mayor Maria Fernandes announced the Mayor’s Campaign for a Cleaner and Brighter Sea Bright, an effort to clean up litter in the community.
The program is being performed with the help of the borough’s new administrator, Richard Kachmar.
Kachmar, who was sworn in at the beginning of July, said he has noticed a lot of debris around the town. It’s not because of residents or businesses, but due to the fact Sea Bright attracts a lot of tourists, who might drop items such as the wrapper from a straw or an old bracelet to get into a nightclub.
Unfortunately, that can make a bad first impression, and he wants to focus on making Sea Bright look neater.
“Hopefully, we’ll really make Sea Bright the shining star of the Jersey Shore,” he said.
Fernandes said this project is different from the Sea Bright Beautification Committee, since it focuses only on cleaning up the community.
She said that there would be a borough-wide PR campaign to keep Sea Bright clean.
“This is our Sea Bright and we must all pitch in,” she said. “That’s all I’m asking.”
Fernandes also said that she wanted to see the borough’s laws enforced by code enforcement, the police department and other municipal departments.
“Rick will see to it that selective code enforcement becomes a thing of the past,” she said.
In related news, Kachmar said that he’s been enjoying his experience in Sea Bright so far.
“I completed my first 30 days and I never felt so at home in a town,” he said. During his lunch times, he’s been exploring the community. He started with the business district, and is now visiting North Beach.
