May 18, 2012The Surfrider Foundation Club at Shore Regional High School will be working to defeat the Plastic Bag Monster by handing out reusable bags and information on the dangers of single-use plastic at Andy K’s in Monmouth Beach, 73 Riverdale Avenue, this Sunday May 20th from 10am to 1PM.
The students are encouraging the community to Rise Above Plastics by saying no to single use plastic items like checkout bags and water bottles whenever possible and using sustainable, reusable items instead. In addition to handing out free reusable bags, the students will have information on plastic pollution’s impact on the marine life.
Despite his elusive nature the Bag Monster is suppose to appear at the event. While they may not be able to defeat him in just one day, the students are confident they can at least strike a blow and weaken the creature.
“We are here to defeat the Bag Monster who is always leaving his handiwork on our beaches, in our streets, in trees and just about everywhere,” said Clark Halpern, President of the Surfrider Foundation Club at Shore Regional High School. “It’s not litterbugs causing all of this, it’s the Bag Monster.”
