June 7, 2013Long Branch – Monmouth Medical Center went into lockdown late Monday evening after a suspicious person allegedly entered the emergency room and made a bomb threat.
Hospital staff immediately notified Long Branch Police who responded with the assistance of the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office, New Jersey State Police, West Long Branch Police and New Jersey Transit Police.
Specially trained K9 units checked all the parked cars on the hospital property and people in the hospital were asked to evacuate the building if possible. The Link News spoke to one terrified woman who was standing on the sidewalk out in front of the hospital. “I was a patient and they just discharged me and told me to leave. I’m scared and don’t know what to do.” That woman asked that her name be withheld.
Police placed yellow crime scene tape around the hospital. One ambulance was attempting to pull into the emergency room driveway when an officer informed them that the hospital is on lockdown and they must divert to another hospital.
