The EvenTide Grille at the Navesink Marina in Sea Bright was chosen among many restaurants along the shoreline to host Dr. Oz and his band playing for the National Dine Out Day on Wednesday, June 19.
National Dine Out Day is an annual program that supports a different charity each year. This year, the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund was chosen. The fund supports organizations that assist in recovering and rebuilding towns affected by Hurricane Sandy. Participating restaurants were asked to donate a portion of each customer’s bill towards the fund.
Sea Bright Mayor Dina Long attended National Dine Day and said she was happy Dr. Oz came to the event. She said she hopes it raises awareness about the damage in her town and and the hardship it still faces.
New Jersey’s First Lady, Mary Pat Christie, chairs the fund and leads the efforts in the National Dine Out Day program. She planned to speak at the concert at Eventide Grille, although she was unable to attend.
Oz, who lives in Cliffside Park told the crowd that Governor Chris Christie had asked him to come to the Jersey Shore to show his support for the event.
Mehmet Cengiz Öz or Dr. Oz, the host of his talk show on Fox 5, is on the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief board of directors which sparked his interest in the event. This year he chose to contribute to the fund by playing in a band at one of the participating restaurants in the National Dine Out Day, which was the EvenTide Grille. Oz made use of his celebrity influence to attract people to attend the concert and donate to the Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund.
The EvenTide Grille is a brand new restaurant located at 1400 Ocean Ave in Sea Bright. The event was great exposure for the up and coming restaurant. The patio bar opened the week before Memorial Day, and the full service kitchen and indoor dining area will open this week. A band plays for family and friends on the patio bar every Monday through Saturday, 5:00pm to 8:00 pm and Sunday at 4:00-7:00pm.
The owners of the EvenTide Grille are Pat Ruane and Lindsay Dewis-Ruane, partnered with Chuck and Brett McQuillan, who also own the Navesink Marina.
Dewis said that she was unsure how her new restaurant was chosen by Dr. Oz to host his concert for the National Dine Out Day. She suspects that Dr. Oz’s producer, Tim Sullivan selected the restaurant because it was brand new and it demonstrated that Sea Bright is working hard to rebuild their borough.
The doors were opened at 2:00 pm, Dr. Oz began playing around 6:00pm and the concert went on until about 9:00 pm. People came at various times throughout the afternoon into the evening. Dewis said that 500 people responded to Dr. Oz on Facebook regarding the event, although she hoped for 1,000 attendees.
The crowd flocked as Dr. Oz entered the area. He took the time to greet people and take pictures. He was also filming for his show. Later in the evening, he performed with his band and put on a great show for the borough of Sea Bright and the attendees.
