Oceanport and West Long Branch men used extortionate means to collect money

July 8, 2013Red Bank Police Department issued an alert on Tuesday night for two men who had stolen a pendant from a chain from around a woman’s neck who was on Bangs Avenue. The robbery occurred at 7:00 p.m. and witness gave police a description of the two accused men and the vehicle, including the license plate, they used to flee the scene.
Oceanport Police Officer Kelley Leimburg while on routine patrol observed the vehicle and pulled it over on Branchport Avenue. In the vehicle according to Red Bank Police Captain Darren McConnell were Joseph Aviles, 33, and Patrick Brock, 31, both of Long Branch.
Aviles and Brock were both taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault. According to McConnell bail was set at $200,000 on Aviles and $100,000 for Brock. West Long Branch and Little Silver Police Departments assisted in the motor vehicle stop on Branchport Avenue.
Red Bank Police have not identified the victim or the relationship between the woman and the accused Long Branch residents or the value of the pendant.
