October 3, 2013Oceanport — The Monmouth Park Charity Fund’s Annual Winner’s Circle Fashion Show Luncheon was recently held at Monmouth Park Racetrack. The event featured fall family fashions modeled by men, women, and children presented by Brooks Brothers, Shrewsbury. Female models were provided courtesy of Model Team Management LLC of Ocean Grove.
The event included the presentation of the “Volunteer of the Year Award” to Mike Ring, a volunteer with Collier Youth Services for over ten years.
Through all the devastation that Hurricane Sandy wrought on the Jersey Shore, one very positive outcome was the opportunity for the Collier community to come together and change the life of one of Collier’s students by rebuilding her family’s decimated house in Union Beach. This monumental undertaking was spearheaded by Mike Ring, a teaching assistant with Collier’s Building Trades students several days a week.
Along with Collier’s Building Trades teacher, Mike led Collier’s students in gutting the house down to its studs and completely rebuilding it. Mike made the rebuilding of this house his personal mission and, during this past school year, spent many hours at the house to ensure that this young woman returned to her home the day before her 18th birthday at the end of May, as he promised.
Special Recognition Awards for volunteerism were presented to Dr. June Duck, Centra State Healthcare Foundation; Wil Manning, The Salvation Army; and Frank Mack, Samaritan Center, Inc.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Monmouth Park Charity Fund whose mission is to raise and distribute funds to nonprofit agencies throughout Monmouth County. These agencies provide services for health care, those at risk in the community, and those in need of special services. Over $8.7 million has been distributed to local nonprofit agencies providing these services to residents of Monmouth County since the organization’s inception in 1946.
