March 2, 2014National Anthem tryouts March 19 at Monmouth Mall
March 4, 2014At approximately 7PM on Sunday, March 2, 2014, the West Long Branch Police Department was called to the BP Gas Station on Monmouth Road at Cedar Avenue for a report of an attempted robbery.
According to the attendant, a white male in his late 20’s to early 30’s had been in the area for several minutes before producing a knife and demanding cash.
The suspect was 5’8” to 6’ in height, skinny build and wore a dark blue hooded sweatshirt, possibly with red or white colored writing on the back. The suspect may have been wearing grey pants or lighter colored jeans and a black bandanna which he used to cover his face.
The suspect and the attendant apparently grappled physically. The suspect reportedly attempted to stab the attendant several times. The attendant was apparently uninjured. The suspect apparently fled on foot South on Monmouth Road without obtaining any cash or other proceeds.
The area was searched by West Long Branch Police Sergeant William Lynch, Detective Jayson Moore, Patrolmen Scott Rockhill and Robert Knott, as well as assistance rendered by Oceanport Police Officer Kelly Leimburg, but the suspect was not located.
It is believed that there may have been customers at the gas pumps or in the gas station lot at the time of the robbery. We ask that these witnesses come forward or anyone with information about this incident contact the West Long Branch Police Department’s Detective Bureau at 732-229-5000.
The West Long Branch Police Department also maintains a tip line where information may be left anonymously. That number is 732-403-3500.
