March 19, 2014NJ PTA annual convention in Long Branch
March 19, 2014Ocean Township — On Saturday, February 22, Prevention First held its annual gala, A Night in Sochi, at Navesink Country Club in Red Bank, honoring Eric Casaburi, the founder and CEO of Retro Fitness. The Olympic theme was chosen as a tribute to Eric for his commitment to spreading wellness and athleticism in our communities.
The evening’s festivities began with the lighting of the torch by event co-chairs, Jessica Hickey and Catherine Romano, Esq. Guests arrived in patriotic attire, dressed as their favorite Olympian, and rocked out to the band New Life Crisis and very memorable performances by David Bryan, keyboardist of Bon Jovi, and Michael Gehgan.
“The spirit of the Olympics inspired everyone to join together to help us put an end to bullying, violence and substance abuse and teach our children to make healthy choices,” said Jill Lauren Quaranta, Creative Marketing Manager of Prevention First.
Funds raised at this year’s gala will support Prevention First’s programs such as Project Vision, an afterschool program that provides a safe haven for local children and teens. Project Vision aims to prevent gang violence by surrounding youth with supportive and compassionate adults to mentor and teach them to make healthy decisions, respect themselves and others and understand the law.
After being involved in this program, 86 percent of students improved their grades and 50 percent made the honor roll.
