June 4, 2014Long Branch — The owner of a pit bill involved in an animal death on May 17 pleaded guilty to the charges filed by the Long Branch Animal Control Officers and paid a fine in Municpal Court on June 3.
The pit bull was voluntarily euthanized by the owner. The dog had a history of behavioral problems.
On May 17, the dog escaped from the property, and charged through a neighbor’s screen door, attacking a shih tzu and injuring the owner who tried to defend the dog.
The Long Branch Health Department reminds all animal owners that pets running at large and unlicensed will result in court summonses and possible fines.
Residents are urged to report to the police or animal control program any dogs off leash in the city. All dogs are required to be leashed and licensed.
