Sea Bright — When the 2015 beach season kicks off on Memorial Day weekend, Driftwood Cabana Club – the southernmost located private beach club in Sea Bright – will be the first Jersey Shore beach club to offer a new, state-of-the-art SprayPark, complete with interactive equipment that squirts, sprays and shoots water inside a new zero-depth wading pool.
The custom-designed, 2,200-square-foot SprayPark will also feature a boat-themed slide, sea creatures that mist, a dolphin that squirts water and in-ground elements that resemble geysers. And in the area surrounding the SprayPark, Driftwood is installing new concrete surfacing, a new lounge chair area and additional tables with umbrellas for poolside dining.
The Stavola Family, owners of Driftwood Cabana Club since it opened in 1957, have undertaken the extensive renovation during the off-season so that the new, marine-themed SprayPark will be ready for members opening day. In keeping with the club’s philosophy of “Family First,” the new SprayPark will provide a new play environment for members of all ages.
“We are always looking for opportunities to improve the summer experience for our members,” the Stavola family said in a statement. “We think this new addition of a SprayPark at Driftwood will produce many wonderful summer memories for our member families and friends.”
The SprayPark has been designed by the Eatontown office of Partner Engineering and Science, Inc., a national engineering, environmental and energy consulting firm.
“Partner is excited to be working with the Driftwood Cabana Club to create a safe, unique water play environment that is interactive and fun for all ages,” said Adam Alexander, a landscape architect at Partner.
The SprayPark is the latest in a series of major improvements at Driftwood, which include a fully-enclosed and heated beachfront Tiki Bar, which is open to the public in the off-season; new, large cabanas overlooking the ocean, and an all-new fitness center. Driftwood is also the home of Ama Ristorante, which opened in September 2012 and has quickly become one of the most popular Italian restaurants at the Shore.

Eatontown Memorial Student is 10,000th Child to Benefit from Free Vision Screening by New Jersey’s Eatontown Lions Club The Eatontown Lions Club began its sixth year of vision screening with a bang on Thursday, September 14, 2023. As a result of partnering with the Eatontown and Ocean Township School Districts the Lions club provided the 10,000th free vision screening. On Thursday in recognition as the 10,000th screening recipient, Ashton Vassor, an eighth-grade student at Eatontown’s Memorial School, was given a citation and gift card from the Lions Club. Ashton has been screened annually by the Lions since second grade. Also given a Lions Club Certificate was Memorial School Nurse Lucy Craig, one of the first Eatontown School District nurses to collaborate with the Lions when vision screening began in 2017. She was Ashton’s school nurse at Meadowbrook School when his vision was first screened. Working in conjunction with school nurses, vision screenings are done annually by the Eatontown Lions in September and October for students in Pre-K through 8th grade. “We really appreciate your help as well as the support of the Lions. Your work and partnership with us make a difference. The vision screening process as well as the resources the Lions provide to our students if a vision problem is discovered help our students to be in a better position to learn and succeed. Thank you.” said Scott T. McCue, Superintendent Eatontown Public Schools More than 12 million school-age children in the United States have some form of vision problem. Many vision problems run the risk of becoming permanent if not corrected by the time the eye reaches full maturity. Vision also plays an important role in education. According to educational experts, 80 percent of learning is visual. “Early screening leads to early detection, which helps ensure that children get the follow-up care they need,” said Club President Linda Butler. “We want to make sure that cor
