May 27, 2016Memorial Day is on Monday. May 30. Towns around the area are holding special ceremonies and events to recall those who gave their lives while serving our country.
Eatontown
Eatontown’s Memorial Day Services will be held at Wampum Park, Route 35, beginning at 10:30 a.m.
Long Branch
Long Branch holds four different ceremonies on Memorial Day.
At 9 a.m., there is a ceremony at Fireman’s Field, Woodgate Ave. and Overlook Ave.
At 9:45 a.m., the city holds a laying of the wreath ceremony at the West End Beach
At 10 a.m., there will be a remembrance at the memorial to those who from Long Branch lost their lives in Vietnam War at Jerry Morgan Park.
At 11 a.m., the annual services and reading of essay contest winners will be held at City Hall.
That will be followed by an “Open House” at VFW Post 2140, Willow Avenue.
Monmouth Beach
A Memorial Day Service, sponsored by the Monmouth Beach Fire Company, will be held at the Firehouse, 24 Beach Road, Monmouth Beach, at 10:00 am on Monday, May 30, 2016.
There will be a speaker and the Monmouth Beach Elementary School Choir will perform.
Light refreshments will be served by the Ladies Auxiliary following the ceremony.
Oceanport
The annual Memorial Day Parade begins at Blackberry Bay Park at 9:30 a.m. and will end at old Borough Hall, with a ceremony immediately following.
Ocean Township
The Township’s Memorial Day Ceremony will take place at Town Hall at 11 a.m.
The Memorial Day parade will follow at 12:30 p.m. from Town Hall, going north on Monmouth Road and ending at Oakhurst Firemen’s Field, where you can enjoy music, refreshments and festivities.
Sea Bright
All interested in attending Sea Bright’s Memorial Day Service are invited to gather at the site of the former Sea Bright Police Station, 1099 Ocean Avenue, at 11:00 a.m.
The Shore Regional Marching Band and organist George Murphy will perform. Ceremonies to honor Sea Bright residents who have sacrificed their lives in military service will include a traditional wreath laying and flag lowering ceremony.
Light refreshments will be served following the program.
West Long Branch
The borough will hold Memorial Day Services at 11 a.m. in front of the Community Center. The guest speaker will be a colonel with the U.S. Air Force.
