Chamber of Commerce’s A Taste of Long Branch is a big hit

March 2, 2022Long Branch, Lakewood – RWJBarnabas Health facilities Monmouth Medical Center and Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus will host a series of free virtual community events throughout the month of March in recognition of National Nutrition Month. The events will be hosted by Jennifer Klein, MS, a registered dietitian at both Monmouth Medical Center and Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus and will include weekly cooking demonstrations featuring a variety of cuisines as well as a series of lectures exploring a range of nutrition-related topics.
In keeping with the 2022 National Nutrition Month theme, “Celebrate a World of Flavors,” the cooking demonstrations will feature a range of different cuisines including popular Korean, Indian, Irish, and Spanish meals. Participants will have the opportunity to follow along as Klein prepares an array of dishes, including bibimbap, shepherd’s pie, Spanish tapas, and masoor dal tadka. Additionally, a “kids cook-along” event will provide step-by-step instructions for kids to prepare rainbow fruit kabobs. Rounding out the cooking demonstrations for the month will be a “family cook-along” where families will be guided through a simple cooking class featuring flatbread pizzas and veggie cups. - Korean Cuisine: Thursday, March 3rd – 11am – 12pm
- Indian Cuisine: Thursday, March 10th – 11am – 12pm
- Luck of the Irish: Shepherd’s Pie: Thursday, March 17th – 11am – 12pm
- Spanish Cuisine: Thursday, March 24th – 11am – 12pm
- Kids Cook Along: Rainbow Fruit Kabobs: Thursday, March 24th – 4pm – 5pm
- Family Cook Along: Flatbread Pizza Party!: Wednesday, March 30th – 6:30pm – 7:15pm
In addition to the cooking demonstrations, Klein will shed light on a variety of nutrition-related topics throughout the month, ranging from promoting healthy bones, the importance of fiber for colon health, nutrition 101, nutrition for healthy aging, and perinatal nutrition. Additionally, to recognize Registered Dietitian Day on March 9th, Ms. Klein will host an “Ask the RD” interactive Q&A session where she will answer attendees’ nutrition questions. - Women’s Health: Nutrition for Healthy Aging: Tuesday, March 29th – 11am – 12pm
- Women’s Health: Perinatal Nutrition: Wednesday, March 30th – 12pm – 1pm
“Nutrition is critically important to overall health and well-being. making it imperative that adults and children of all ages take time out of their busy schedules to learn about how to prepare healthy, nourishing foods and the benefits they have on the body,” Klein says. “We are thrilled to offer a comprehensive series of interactive, educational and fun cooking demonstrations and lectures in honor of National Nutrition Month to help provide our community with the tools, resources and knowledge they need to embark on or continue their nutrition journeys in the month of March and beyond.”
