COVID Crashes Council; Meeting’s almost in person
May 12, 2022Raising Awareness of Mental Health
May 12, 2022The airship Hindenburg, the largest dirigible (zeppelin) ever built and the pride of Nazi Germany, bursts into flames upon touching its mooring mast in Lakehurst, New Jersey, killing 36 passengers and crew-members, on May 6, 1937.
Carl Jablonski, president of the Navy Lakehurst Historical Society, will speak about the Hindenburg disaster, which occurred 85 years ago this month.
After more than 30 years of passenger travel on commercial zeppelins — in which tens of thousands of passengers flew over a million miles, on more than 2,000 flights, without a single injury — the era of the passenger airship came to an end in a few fiery minutes.
This presentation will include a short film with images from the airship and disaster, displays of artifacts that survived the crash and will share stories of the Hindenburg survivors. This program is presented in partnership with the Long Branch Historical Association. Registration is not required, but strongly encouraged, although walk-ins will be welcome. Light refreshments will be served. Please register at: bit.ly/hindenburglongbranch
