January 25, 2025The City of Long Branch is excited to invite residents to two new, free monthly event series at the newly renovated Long Branch Senior Center: City Showcase and History in Motion. These events promise to bring an enriching mix of music, entertainment, and local history to the community in a welcoming, vibrant setting.
City Showcase will celebrate local talent through a diverse array of performances, featuring genres such as classical music, Irish dance, Bollywood, ballroom dance, and more. Meanwhile, the History in Motion series will bring captivating historical topics to life, shedding light on our area’s rich past along with other intriguing subjects.
“The newly renovated Senior Center, with its spacious event venues and ample parking, is the perfect place for community gatherings,” said Long Branch Mayor John Pallone. “We wanted to share this beautiful space with the community. The vintage 1900s Coca-Cola sign, which serves as both a draw and a backdrop for performances, is just one of the many unique features of this venue.”
City Showcase kicked off in November with a stunning performance by Simply Strings, a Central Jersey-based string quartet. The group, who have performed at renowned venues like Carnegie Hall, captivated the audience with a blend of classical and pop melodies. Guests enjoyed appetizers and Pellegrino as they soaked in the elegant atmosphere.
The City Showcase series kicked off the new year with a bang on January 15th, featuring Long Branch’s own (and Senior Center Member) Kimme Chevalier and her 10-piece band, Kimme’s Project. The band lit up the stage with an electrifying classic rock performance, thrilling over 100 attendees. The crowd rocked out to iconic hits from The Beatles, Santana, Gloria Gaynor, and more, with the crowd-pleasing Wagon Wheel getting everyone to their feet and onto the dance
On Monday, February 10th, celebrate Valentine’s Day at the Senior Center with world champion dancer and World Cup silver medalist, Linus Koreiva, and partner Diana Yacobi. They’ll dazzle the audience with a stunning showcase of ballroom dance styles, including the passionate Argentine Tango and the elegant Viennese Waltz. After the performance, attendees will have the chance to learn a few dance moves and enjoy a fun evening of dancing, whether with friends or a special someone.
Meanwhile, History in Motion invites history enthusiasts to explore a variety of fascinating historical topics. On Monday, January 27th, local historian, and author Greg Kelly will take attendees on a journey through Long Branch’s historic beach and pool clubs. Guests can warm up with hot chocolate while learning about these iconic landmarks from their golden days.
