August 25, 2011LB Residents get Code Red for updates
August 26, 2011Monmouth Beach — On Wednesday afternoon, Dennis Cahill, Office of Emergency Management Coordinator for the borough, issued the following statement about Hurricane Irene:
OEM remains at a heightened alert level as we monitor the situation concerning Hurricane Irene. Irene has strengthened to a major hurricane (category 3) and is moving through the Bahamas. It is expected to track off the east coast of Florida and South Carolina, continuing up the East Coast. Irene could threaten our area with damaging winds, flooding rains and coastal surge, flooding and high waves Saturday night through Monday.
OEM hopes that all our residents had an opportunity to read and consider the hurricane and evacuation preparedness letter and checklist that was published in the most recent borough newsletter. If not, please email monmouthbeachoem@gmail.com and we will send it to you.
At the present time, OEM suggests our residents make the following preparations:
• Make contingency plans with friends or relatives, or make hotel reservations somewhere west of the Garden State Parkway, in the event that an evacuation order becomes necessary.
• Make contingency plans to board your pets in a safe location.
• Continue to monitor the weather news regarding this storm.
• Prepare your “ready bag”.
• Consider taking precautions to safeguard your property.
OEM will continue to monitor this event and will provide updates as it develops.
