Earlier today, June 29, New Jersey American Water experienced a major infrastructure failure at its Swimming River Water Treatment Plant. This failure included the loss of its two transmission mains leaving the plant as well as the raw water main coming into the plant. Several Link area towns are being asked to use water only for essential purposes.
New Jersey American Water customers in Monmouth County may be experiencing low pressure or no pressure at this time. Company representatives say they are working to assess the problem, its impact on the county town by town, and develop solutions that will minimize the impact of this failure.
The company announced it would be asking residents in the following towns to limit all non-essential water use while they work to restore service:
Middletown
Holmdel
Aberdeen
Highlands
Sea Bright
Rumson
Fair Haven
Little Silver
Oceanport
Shrewsbury Twp
Shrewsbury Borough
Tinton Falls
Long Branch
The company said it will use the media, its Reverse 911, and website to spread the message.
