Columbus Day Parade goes off without a hitch, just a little rain

October 12, 2012It was a little rainy and cold on Sunday, but that didn’t stop the crowds from showing up for the Long Branch Columbus Day Parade. After all, it was still raining candy, and that always delights parents and kids.
After running out of candy last year The LINK was prepared this time, with over 50 pounds of candy so no one threatened them toward the end of the parade.
There were plenty of floats and bands and Paul Gaffney, President of Monmouth Univer-sity, was the Grand Marshal and led the way along with Christopher Columbus.
Rain did put a damper on the outside festivities that were supposed to be held on the corners of Westwood and Morrris avenues at the end of the parade route. The Nerds moved inside to the Long Branch High School auditorium and many activities moved inside the Morris Ave. School.
The Greater Long Branch Chamber of Commerce felt it was a good day and is looking forward to next year, where the festivities will be set up outside again.
Joe Mercadante, as usual, did a wonderful job organizing the parade.
