Long Branch – The city started 2013 with a murder investigation. According to unofficial information received by The Link News, police along with the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating a murder that occurred on Thursday, January 3.
According to the Long Branch Police all information regarding this murder has to be released through the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
Marc Lemieux of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office says that at 4:20 p.m., officials responded to a 911 call that there was an unresponsive male on Willow Avenue. They were directed to a house which had been broken up into different apartments. The victim was found deceased.
The victim has been identified as Manuel Vilaseca Cortez, 35.
“There is an active investigation into his death,” said Lemieux.
According to information from unofficial sources the man was believed to have been stabbed by a roommate, who has since fled the area, believed to be heading out of the country. However, the investigation is still ongoing.
