While most sixth graders are enjoying their summer vacations at the beach or sleeping late, Stephen Lubischer of Oceanport has been crisscrossing the country on a sports mission.
His first stop was Las Vegas where he and his fellow teammates from A Game, an Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) basketball squad consisting of sixth graders from New Jersey and Pennsylvania. They played six games and faced teams from Oakland, San Francisco, Riverside, and San Diego, Arizona and ended up winning the National Championships 66-56.

Oceanport resident Stephen Lubischer a sixth grader was part of the AAU team that won the West Coast AAU Division 1 National Championships out in Las Vegas.
Lubischer played a two guard on the team and was the only local player to make the squad. The team had three players who stood six foot and one player that was 6’4” in sixth grade. Winning the West Coast AAU Division 1 National Basketball Championships the players all received medals and were fitted for rings that they will be getting.
Right after that victory, Lubischer bordered a plan with his dad and head to Columbus Ohio. He was participating in the Football University Top Gun Event. Lubischer was one of 600 football players from sixth, seventh and eighth grade to be invited to attend the camp.
To be considered a Top Gun, Lubischer first had to attend two other positional camps. These camps have 8,000 kids from all over the United States and Canada attending. Philadelphia hosted the camp for linebackers, which was the first camp Lubischer attended. He did so well he was selected to attend the Top Gun Camp in Ohio.
The second camp was out in Boston and that was just for quarterbacks. This is the position Lubischer that loves to play, as he gets to use his speed and arm strength. The camps are instructed by former NFL coaches and players. Again, Lubischer did so well he was asked to attend the Top Gun Camp in Columbus.
Lubischer had a decision to make as you can only attend Top Gun for one position. He chose the quarterback camp. A smart choice as he must have impressed the coaches during the three days of training as he is being considered for the 2013 Seventh Annual East Bay All American Game that will be played in December at the Alamo Dome in San Antonio, Texas.
