September 25, 2013The Greater Long Branch Chamber of Commerce announces the upcoming Fifth Annual Long Branch Block Party and Pooch Parade, Saturday, September 28th.
It will all take place on Brighton Avenue, which will be closed between Ocean Boulevard and Second Avenue, and adjoining streets from 10 AM to 4 PM. The event is co-sponsored by the Greater Long Branch Chamber of Commerce, the City of Long Branch, Monmouth Medical Center, Central Jersey Bank, Back on the Racks, RSI Bank, Staybridge Suites, Investors Bank, Colonial American Bank and 95.9 FM the WRAT.
This will be a family-oriented event featuring fabulous local food, crafters, children’s activities including Bounce houses & Fire truck rides (courtesy of the Long Branch Fire Department), TOUCH THE TRUCK, a Long Branch Police Department K-9 demonstration, pumpkin painting and Build a Scarecrow!! This year the Amerigo Vespucci will have a bocce tournament in the Park starting at 11 AM.
One of the major highlights of the event is the Pooch Parade with all the dogs costumed for the event!! Judging will be for the Best Overall Costume (1st, 2nd and 3rd Place). First place will include a cash award. There will be a celebrity judge this year to join our panel!!. If you would like your dog(s) to participate please contact the Chamber office for an application. There is a $5.00 fee for the each dog which is being donated to Wag On Inn Rescue, A NJ recognized 501(C) 3 organization, located in Monmouth County, NJ. They are a small group of dedicated volunteers, trying to rehome dogs and cats. The Pooch Parade is scheduled for 1:00 PM in West End Park with line-up at 12:30 PM on Brighton Court. All dogs must be registered for the event. Registration forms are available at the Chamber office, 228 Broadway; Vanity Fur, 82 Brighton Avenue and the Chocolate Lounge, 81 Brighton Avenue. Registration will be available the day of the event until 12 Noon at the Chamber kiosk.
Central Jersey Bank will be conducting the Scarecrow Building which is open to all. Judging will be at 3 PM. The scarecrows will be on display at the park through the weekend.
