It was deja vu all over again, but how can anyone resist a Chihuahua dressed up in a sombrero wearing sunglasses. Last year Chihuahua Chito Bandito took first place and this year it was Herbie, dressed suspiciously similar. But there was no doubt that adorable Herbie and his owner adorable Bruce from Long Branch deserved the honors.

On one side of the street plenty of bouncy rides were set up for the little ones. In a fenced off area the Long Branch Police Officer Eric Wettermark demonstrated the obedience of K9 Dog Bala which always mesmerizes the crowd. Especially when the commands are not in English.
There were big trucks for little kids to climb into and firetruck rides were going all day. Brighton Ave. was closed to traffic and plenty of vendors lined the street.
Central Jersey Bank once again sponsored the scarecrow building contest and supplied all the makings. Jack Gerber, with the help of his dad Steve, was very excited as he stuffed hay into old pants, a shirt and a makeshift head. “First place prize is two tickets to Great Adventure!” He was ready to win.
But the highlight of the day where the adorable pooches dressed up in their Halloween best. No matter how humiliating it seemed to be they loved the attention.
