March 26, 2014Township of Ocean – Residents in the area of Deal Road, Talmadge Street and Highway 35 didn’t need an alarm clock this morning, as sirens were blaring at 4:25 a.m. Police, fire and first aid all responded to a report of an active structure fire at 1647 Route 35.
Officer Cory Cole was the first to arrive and notified
headquarters that the building was fully engulfed in flames. Police closed down the northbound side of State Highway 35, but allowed the southbound side to remain open.
Posillipo Restaurant recently left Asbury Park and just renovated and opened at the 1647 Route 35 location in Ocean. While in Asbury they were known for having fine Italian food. The restaurant was once home to Los Caminos De Don Chucho, a Mexican eatery.
Ocean Police Lt. Kevin Faller stated that the fire was basically extinguished at 7:30 this morning, about three hours after it was reported. He also stated at this time it does not look suspicious, and that the restaurant suffered extensive damage throughout the interior and exterior of the building, and looks to be a total loss.
Firefighters from Wanamassa, Oakhurst and Tinton Falls Fire District 1 as well as the Monmouth County Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the fire.
