August 1, 2014Long Branch – A theft occurred around 2:15 p.m. on July 31, at Bell Liquors on Broadway, when the suspect a black male took off running out of the store.
Fortunately a Long Branch Police Officer was right outside the store when the suspect ran out. She immediately started chasing after the man and called on the radio that she was in foot pursuit. The officer stated that suspect was attempting to run to a waiting pick-up truck that was parked behind the H&R Block business on Broadway.
Officer Antonia Gonzalez was able to give a description of the waiting truck, a late model Ford pick-up cream/tan in color with a dark brown panel running down the center. In the bed of the truck was a bunch of scrap metal. The driver was either Hispanic or black, and drove away before his buddy could get into the truck.
Gonzalez chased the suspect into an area off of Myrtle Avenue where West Long Branch and Long Branch Police quickly converged. Within 10 minutes the alleged suspect was in custody.
Eatontown Police located a vehicle and driver matching the description at near Monmouth Mall. They stopped the vehicle and detained the driver for Long Branch to conduct a follow-up investigation.
