It turned out to be a wonderful night on Saturday. With the cooperation of balmy weather and no threat of rain, around 50 people from Long Branch High School showed up in Oceanport to celebrate their 45th reunion. The party was open to other classes and many also showed up.
The reunion was organized by Brenda McCabe, whose endless labor of love and commitment made everything come together in one entertaining gala and a night that created so many special memories to bring home. And to make it even more special, it was Brenda’s birthday, giving even more to celebrate.
And for those of you who couldn’t make it, no, Brenda did not go skinny dipping as she promised to do.
On Friday night everyone who could met at the West End Bar and Grill, a new restaurant lounge on Brighton Ave. to begin the reminiscing.
Kudos goes out to those who put an extra effort in making the trip, some coming from Florida, California, Virginia, Vermont and other states.
There was a special board displayed with high school photos of those who had passed, causing people to stop and study the names. A few were surprised; everyone was sad.
But on the whole there were a lot of “Oh My God you look exactly the same,” plenty of hugs and kisses and a few admittedly asked, “Um, who are you again?”
The night ended too soon, but there is always next year.
