OAKHURST, NJ – On Sunday, September 22 at 11am, Congregation Torat El will hold the next event of its popular and innovative “Meet the Author” series in our beautiful Social Hall at 301 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, NJ and on Zoom.
This is the first event of the series’ eighth season, and features author Seth Bornstein, who will be speaking about his book, Swimming to Jerusalem.
Swimming to Jerusalem is the story of Bram Goodman; his family, friends, colleagues, and demons.
Born in France, Bram spent his childhood in Israel and moved to the United States as a teenager. After his freshman college year, he goes back to Israel and enlists in the Army with his cousin Yoni. After his discharge, an aimless and disillusioned Bram makes his way to Paris where he meets Liz, an American, and follows her back to the States.
Decades later, when Theo, his youngest child, seeks to learn about his heritage, Bram begins to confront the past that he has attempted to keep at bay. It is a journey that will take him back, both emotionally and physically, to a place he thought he could leave behind.
Seth Bornstein has written plays, short stories, and essays. Swimming to Jerusalem is his first novel. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he attended Parsons School of Design and has had a career in urban economic development with positions in the public, private, and academic sectors.
