The 2024 soccer season for the Lady Spartans of Ocean Township has been a slow start. September 12, they hosted the Knights of Wall Township in a Shore Conference A Central divisional match-up. It was the third game of the season for both schools.
The first half of the game was tight as both teams had just one goal. For the Spartans it was scored by Mia Fiorentino, sophomore forward. It came off an assist by sophomore midfielder Avery Ohara. However, during the second half of action, Wall scored three additional goals and held Ocean scoreless.
In the 4-1 win for Wall Township, Erin Farrell had two goals for the Knights and assisted on another score. Samantha Brett had a goal and assist, Madison Miller also scored. In the goal for Wall Township was Madalyn Peterson, who had four saves.
Wall started the season with a 1-0 win over Manasquan and then followed that up with a 2-1 win at Jackson Memorial.
Ocean Township is missing several of their key players, Maddie Clark, Kaia Abbatiello, Grace Taylor and Leyla Littman, who are all out with injuries. Those injured players do not have a date of return to action.
In the goal for Ocean against Wall was Grace Fuller, who had seven saves.
The Spartans opened the season with a 2-1 loss to Lacey. Their second game and loss was a 1-0 defeat against Red Bank Regional.
Monday, Ocean returns to action in the Shore Conference Tournament, Group F, where they will host Toms River North at 3:45 p.m.
Ocean is led by Alex Pickett, head coach, and assisted by Tom Siciliano. The seniors on the roster this season are Maddie Suchodolsky, Zoe Lazar, Kaia Abbatiello, Rachel Walsh, Grace Taylor, Alex Foley, Maddie Clark, Maddie Woodward, Olivia DeGirolamo, and Isabella Santucci. Only two juniors, Grace Fuller and Lucy Wood. There are six sophomore playing varsity this fall; Leyla Littman, Avery O’Hara, Kylie Mammano, Lindsay Makower, Mia Fiorentino, and Erin Toppi.
