The start of the 2012 Little League season in Long Branch was a rematch of the
championship game last season. The Mets sponsored by Long Branch PBA #10, which
won the title game in 2011, beat the Athletics sponsored by Scala’s Pizzeria
7-6 on Sunday.
Before the game started the Honorable Adam Schneider, Mayor of the City of Long
Branch, tossed out the first pitch. As Schneider walked to the mound he said
that he didn’t need a warm-up, he had on his NY Yankee shirt and it was a great
day in the city. Schneider wound up and threw tossed a ball that was just
outside the strike zone.
The Mets took the field first. On the mound was Anthony Gaudious, his teammates
on Sunday were Ethan Arce, Federico Bracero, Lydell Craig, David Garrido, Reynaldo
Guzman, Jordan Pellot, Trent Pugh, Danny and Michael Shirvanian, Zachary
Vasquez and Jalen Walls. They are coached by Jason Andrews and Roy Walls.
Starting pitcher for the Athletics was Juwan Wilkins. He was joined by
teammates Alec Booth, Terrence Brewer, Ariana Cafolla, Brendan Cuddy, Matthew
Durnien, Pasa Fields, Willie Garner, Marvin Hall, Nicholas Luhn-Verost, Albert
Paulino, Jr., and AJ Peerally. The squad is coached by Jerry Regan and John
Cuddy.
