July 13, 2013Long Branch — Police have apprehended a suspect in an armed bank robbery that took place Friday.
Early this afternoon, The Bank of America, uptown Broadway, was robbed, and police chased the suspect’s vehicle to the residential streets behind that section. The suspect parked the car and fled on foot. The suspect was a Caucasian male with graying blond hair.
The man fled the bank in a vehicle with an undisclosed amount of cash and turned right off of Broadway to an area where he was believed to reside. Cop cars were all over and police were searching backyards on those streets.
According to police, the suspect was armed. One police officer advised Link photographers to avoid the area. “Are you trying to get shot or something?” he asked.
After searching backyards on Washington St., Dudly, Dewey, Hamelton and other roads in the area, police apprehended the suspect. Police are questioning a second male on a bicycle to ascertain if he was involved or not.
