June 12, 2014Ocean Township – A 55-year old township woman was struck by a tractor trailer at 7:49 in the morning on June 11, at the intersection of West Park Avenue and State Highway 35.
Detective Sergeant Thomas Burke released a prepared statement that said Officer Tyler Fox, Patrol Officers Michael DeSimone, Alisa Martinez, Matthew Guido, Kathleen Delanoy, Thimothy Kolodziej along with Detectives Jesse Orbach, Jeffrey Malone, Bryan Morgan and Sergeants Gregory Tongring, Timothy Macom and Burke all responded to the scene.
“A pedestrian was struck at the location by a tractor-trailer that was traveling southbound on state highway 35. The pedestrian, Caroline Ferrin, age 55 of Ocean Township, was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center where she later died from her injuries,” Burke wrote.
Police have identified the driver of the truck as Michael T. Spearman, 40, of Sicklerville, New Jersey. The report stated that Spearman was not injured in the incident.
When a fatal motor vehicle accident occurs the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office is informed and officers from the Monmouth County Serious Crash and Reconstruction Team (S.C.A.R.T.) respond. These are officers from various police departments throughout the county that have specialized training in conducting and investigating fatal crashes. Assisting this unit were Officers Martines and Orbach of the Ocean Township Police Department. Detective Eric Kerecman was the representative from the MCPO.
