COLUMBUS, Ohio – Junior goalie Tori DeScenza on the Ohio State women’s lacrosse team was named a Second Team All-American by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Tuesday. This is the first time in program history Ohio State has had a goalie selected as DeScenza becomes the 13th Buckeye in school history to earn All-America status.
DeScenza, the 2014 ALC Goalie of the Year, finished the season with 13 wins (second-most in school history), while leading the conference with a .492 save percentage. DeScenza’s 8.06 goals-against average is second-best in OSU single-season history behind former Buckeye Erin Forquer’s mark of 7.28 during the 2002-03campaign. Her 154 saves in 2014 is tied for fifth on the record book as well. Twice this year DeScenza was honored as ALC Defensive Player of the Week before earning first team All-ALC and All-West honors for the first time in her career. A native of Sea Bright, N.J. and Shore Regional High School grad, DeScenza also led the team with 38 groundballs in her junior year

Key moments for DeScenza in 2014:
• March 9 – Posted 10 stops, including three in the overtime session to help Ohio State defeat No. 4 Northwestern, 11-10, in overtime, marking the first win over the Wildcats since the 2003 campaign.
• March 11 – Named ALC Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career.
• April 6 – Had a .483 save percentage, facing 24 shots in a road win at Vanderbilt.
• April 13-15 Earned back-to-back victories over Top 10 opponents Penn State and Notre Dame, collecting a combined 18 saves with a .485 save percentage in Columbus. Earned second weekly honor by ALC.
• May 1 – Named ALC Goalie of the Year, First Team All-ALC honoree.
• May 9 – Tied her season high of 11 saves in the first round of the NCAA Tournament vs. Louisville May 9.
• May 12 – Earned IWLCA First Team All-Region laurels.
• May 20 – Becomes Buckeyes’ first goalie in program history to be named an All-American.
Led by fourth-year head coach Alexis Venechanos, the 2014 Buckeyes finished the season 13-7 overall with their first trip to the NCAA Tournament in 11 years, while finishing second in the ALC conference.
